So if I set it on aperture priority...

153/365 So if I set it to Aperture Priority...

Looks like Sachiko's having more fun than I am. And no, this one's still taken with Natsume. My brain is overloading with information as I read the manual while fiddling with Natsuki. Truth be told, I'm quite intimidated. I don't remember being this lost during my film SLR days. So many buttons, 80% of them I have no farking idea what for.

Still, despite feeling like such an idiot, it feels good holding a nice, fat SLR. The weight, the grip, the nice shutter sound---it just feels so therapeutic you know? The act of actually putting your eye to the viewfinder, I never knew how much I missed it.

I still have a lot to learn though, that's why you guys won't be seeing pics anytime soon. All the pics I've taken so far are crap. But I'm damned dedicated to making Natsuki submit to my will (or at least arrive at a compromise) so there's hope yet.

In my experience, point and shoot cameras are usually factory set to give you photos that only need resizing and maybe just a touch of contrast. In fact pulling curves too much will likely ruin the photo completely. While DSLR gives you a file with much wider editing latitude. At least that's what I noticed with my Nikons (I also keep two for different purposes :)

I always shoot with Aperture-Priority too btw :) I just compensate the exposure in case of difficult light situation and set the white balance.

Have fun with your new toy!

I feel the same way about my DSLR...so many buttons and I'm really clueless about the lot of them. To make it worse, the manual is not especially user-friendly so understanding it is difficult. Blah. However, I have learned some things and like with my old 35mm SLR I just think practice, practice, practice with lots of experimentation is really the best way to get to know the thing so that's what I do.

Mine is a Nikon though so I'm not much help to you other than that.

I agree with this: "Still, despite feeling like such an idiot, it feels good holding a nice, fat SLR. The weight, the grip, the nice shutter sound---it just feels so therapeutic you know? The act of actually putting your eye to the viewfinder, I never knew how much I missed it."

I love the viewfinder...using a screen was weird, I'm glad to have my viewfinder back. :P

Anyway, you'll get it, I know...you are an amazing photographer! :D

at least you have the energy to read the manual. the dslr at home is next to useless, because no one is keen on understanding it. and i'm just too lazy to tinker with it. haay!

dslrs are intimidating. i feel that there are only extremes and middle of the road pics. parang it's panget na panget or sobrang ganda na you can't repeat it again or it's just mediocre na sana nag-point and shoot na lang.

ngek! nag-vent out na ako. hehe! pero masaya magkalikot.
